Bellevue College softball came up big with two wins over visiting Everett, taking game one 5-4 and game two by a score of 9-8

In the opener, the Bulldogs had to rally back after the Trojans plated two runs in the top of the sixth inning, knotting the score at 4-4. Allie Barashkoff, who has been one of Bellevue’s top hitters all year, came through again with a double to drive in Shannon Tierney to give BC the lead 5-4. Pitcher Ava Jeretzky pitched a perfect 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh to seal the win.

The nightcap was a wild one as both teams scored mulitiple runs in the seventh, with the Bulldogs winning in walkoff fashion with a bases loaded walk to. After being down 5-1, Bellevue chipped away with single runs in the fourth and fifth before tying the game in the bottom of the sixth as Barashkoff led off the inning with a double. Abby Watkins followed with a walk, putting runners at first and second with no outs. A ground out, and a sacrifice fly by Aubree Orr plated Barashkoff and Watkins to set up the dramatic final inning.

Everett struck first with a three-run home run by Lilyana Balgos, giving the Trojans an 8-5 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Bellevue’s bats were not phased by the big Everett blow as Ella Singer and Maddie Zimprich led off the inning with back-to-back doubles. After a line out by Tierney, Maddie Repp tripled which was followed by a Barashkoff sacrifice fly, tying the game at 8-8. With two outs, Everett’s pitching felt the pressure of the comeback as Watkins singled before three consecutive walks to Jeretzky, Orr, and Avery Grutz. The free pass to Grutz allowed Watkins to trot home for the game winner in one of BC’s most thrilling wins of the season on sophomore day.

The huge wins also helped solidify Bellevue’s spot in the NWAC Championships as the wins leapfrogged Everett for second place in the North Region and maintained a top ten RPI ranking.
