Bellevue College volleyball took advantage of 22 hitting errors and a negative .022 hitting percentage by Skagit Valley in a 3-0 sweep at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. Bellevue won 25-18, 25-15, 25-16.
For a brief moment, Skagit Valley had the edge to start off the match, jumping ahead 6-2. BC would tie it up as the match remained close in set one until a 6-0 run off five consecutive Skagit Valley errors. Ava Nowak, who led Bellevue with 14 kills on the night, terminated the set with a kill off a set by Maile Kuamo’o.
Set two was all Bellevue as Kylee Jackson went on a 3-0 serve run with two aces to close out the set 25-15. In set three, Nowak, Ja’elle Jenkins, and Megan Hale had the hot hands delivering six kills early on to build a 6-1 lead. The Cardinals would tie it up before Nowak had three kills during a 5-0 run to put Bellevue up 22-14. Nowak was on fire in set three with two more consecutive kills for points 24 and 25 to secure the sweep making quick work of the Cardinals. Nowak also led the defensive efforts with 14 digs while Maya Velasquez hit. 833. Kuamo’o had 33 assists as Bellevue’s solo setter as Lucci Unga, BC’s other setter, is expected to return to action this weekend after recovering from an ankle injury.
The Bulldogs are now running with traction as they currently are riding a 10-match win streak and sit at 15-4 overall. Bellevue hosts Olympic College this Fri. Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
