The Bellevue College golf team was resurrected in 2006 and continues to be one of the top programs in the region. In 2017, the Bulldog’s men’s team finished second in the NWAC standings, just two points behind North Idaho. Led by medalist Isaac Hall, BC also finished second at the NWAC Championship Tournament, two strokes behind North Idaho. Dexte Simonds finished ninth, and Curtis Koltermann and Evan Galando tied for 10th.
Simonds was the 2017 NWAC Player of the Year, as well as a first-team all-NWAC selection. Hall also was a first-team choice, with Galando being named to the second team.
The program has garnered several team and individual successes. Most notably, former Bulldog Richard Lee starred at the University of Washington and is now on the PGA Tour. The men’s team captured the NWAC Championship in stunning fashion in 2010, as well as runner-up finishes in 2008, 2013 and 2015. The Bellevue College program also has sent several golfers on to NCAA Division I programs.
Assistant coach Keith Mickle has been named interim head coach for both the men’s and women’s golf teams at Bellevue College for the 2016-17 season, taking over for Bryan Stevens. Mickle, an assistant at BC since the fall of 2015, is the former coach at Forest Ridge School in Bellevue. He was voted Coach of the Year three times in his nine years at the helm before moving to the college level.
