Respondus Monitor is used to capture the audio and video of students while they take their exams and requires the use of Respondus Lock Down Browser. Respondus Monitor is a proctoring application that uses the Lockdown Browser and a webcam to assist with the academic integrity of online exams. Respondus is ideally used in non-proctored online test environments.

Respondus 4 is a powerful tool for authoring, managing, and delivering exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Canvas. Download the document below to learn how to format your exam questions for Respondus 4.

LockDown Browser can be enabled from Settings > Navigation. Once enabled, Respondus Monitor can be enabled and configured from within the LockDown Browser dashboard. Respondus 4 must be downloaded by following the instructions at the link above (see ‘Download Respondus 4 Now).

Respondus 4.0 is a Windows-based software tool for instructors to create, format, and manage exams and quizzes, offering a centralized environment to build assessments offline. It allows instructors to publish these exams directly to various online learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas, and also to export them to Word or print them to paper.

  1. Respondus 4.0 is available only for BC faculty.
  2. To download Respondus on your machine, you will need admin rights.
  3. If you have a college owned laptop, you will need to ask ITS to download Respondus 4 for you.
  1. Start the Respondus 4 download
  2. Use your login or NetID in the username field and not your full BC email address.
    1. e.g., jane.smith and not jane.smith@bellevuecollege.edu             
  3. Use your BC password.
  4. You will be see a page with the Respondus Software Download and the Off-Campus Software Use Agreement Form
  5. At the bottom of the page listed will be:

Institution Name: Bellevue College 
Local Support Contact(s): Help Desk x4357 
/ License Expiration: 7/31/2026

  1. You will need the above listed information for the download.
  2. Once you extracted the .exe file you can add the above Installation Password, Institution Name and Local Support Contact, and the start using the Respondus 4.0 software.
  3. Respondus 4 guides are available on the their website.
