Practical midterm tips

  • Check Canvas Inbox and Announcements daily professors often post last-minute updates or clarifications before exams.
  • Use the Canvas Calendar to map out all upcoming due dates at a glance so nothing sneaks up on you, and turn on Notifications to stay on track without relying on memory.
  • Work through Modules from top to bottom to avoid missing hidden requirements, prerequisite content, or key review materials.
  • Break big assignments into smaller steps using the To-Do list, this helps reduce overwhelm and keeps you moving forward.
  • Submit early whenever possible and build in buffer time before deadlines to avoid last-minute tech issues. If something comes up, Zoom drop-in hours are there to help.
  • Review grades and instructor feedback after each submission, comments often provide insight into what may show up on midterms.
  • Use “What-If” grades to understand what you need on your midterm to reach your target grade, this can reduce uncertainty and help you prioritize.
  • Download or bookmark important materials (slides, rubrics, readings) ahead of time in case of internet or access issues.
  • Look for practice quizzes, study guides, or review content in Canvas, many instructors leave helpful hints there.
  • Try a focused 2–3 hour study block using Canvas as your guide: pick one course, complete a module, then take a real break.
  • Use the Canvas mobile app for quick check-ins, but switch to a laptop or desktop for submitting assignments to avoid formatting problems.
