Faculty Travel Matching Funds Program

Global Initiatives maintains a matching fund to support faculty travel related to BC internationalization

Travel for the following purposes can be funded:

  • to make and meet with contacts that will be used in future teaching and research (e.g., jointly-taught courses with international colleagues, internet- or telecommunications-based courses; joint research);
  • to set up a short-term student trip that will be embedded in a future course; or
  • to accompany students abroad on a faculty-led international experience.

Travel Matching Funds Program supports faculty members traveling abroad for a short-term stay. Applicants are strongly encouraged to seek additional funding, including funds from internal and external sources.

Note: Applications for participation in conferences, seminars, symposia, organized training, workshops, research, sabbatical-related activities, etc. will not be considered.

Terms of Award

  • Each award provides a maximum of $2,000 to cover travel expenses.
  • Travel Awards can be paid as travel expenses only. All travel is subject to BC’s travel guidelines, policies and procedures, and approval from the Chair or Dean.
  • Travel to countries with U.S. State Department Travel Warnings must be in compliance with BC’s travel policies. The award of a travel grant does not replace any requirements pursuant to those travel policies.
  • GI reserves the right to partially fund a travel request.
  • Funds may be used only for the destination, purpose, and dates that appear in the award application.
  • Funds awarded in a given fiscal year may be credited toward travel in the subsequent fiscal year but cannot normally be applied retroactively, that is, toward travel that occurred in a prior fiscal year. (For example, funding awarded in July 2018 may not be used for travel that occurred before that month.)
  • Funds will be disbursed upon receipt of a brief report on the activities connected with the award.

Grantee Obligations

Funding is contingent on the individual or group submitting a short self-reflective travel report within 30 days of their activity.

  • Reports will describe your activity and its impact.
  • A personal story that highlights how your funded travel has influenced the development of your international perspectives.
  • Your thoughts and viewpoints on the intercultural experiences of your funded trip
