Grady Blacken is a native of Washington and received his BA in chemistry from Whitman College and Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Washington. He followed these studies by spending five years as a postdoctoral research fellow at UW Hematology and the Puget Sound Blood Center (now Bloodworks Northwest). Grady’s research has focused on developing high-throughput, targeted methods for detection and quantification of protein oxidation and phosphorylation. In this pursuit he has interfaced with physicians and medical researchers across the Seattle biomedical arena to explore the connections between patient outcomes and molecular changes to blood cells. Since joining Bellevue College in 2014, Grady has taken on many roles including instructor, instrument technician, research advisor and club advisor. Grady, his wife Kathryn and son Henry recently moved to a new home in West Seattle.
