Can I take courses without being admitted to the program?
Students who have not been formally admitted to the RAIS program may register for up to two (2) RAIS courses (on a space available basis) before they apply for admission to the RAIS program. Students are required to meet all prerequisites listed on the course and are limited to two courses totaling no more than 10 credits as a non-RAIS student. To request a seat in a Radiation & Imaging Sciences course, please complete an entry code request form.
Can I apply to the RAIS program before I have completed an associate’s degree?
If you are nearing the end of an associate’s degree program in radiologic technology, radiation therapy, or nuclear medicine, at a regionally-accredited college, and you expect to take your primary certification exam soon, you can apply now to continue your studies in the RAIS program. We may be able to admit you conditionally, pending your completing your degree and earning your certification.
If you haven’t yet begun your studies for an associate’s degree in one of these radiation or imaging fields, then you are not eligible to apply to the RAIS program. Admission to these associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs are independent of one another. If you want to start an associate’s degree at Bellevue College, and then continue on through our RAIS program, you will need to apply and be admitted to each program separately.
I do not live in Washington State. Can I still take these courses?
Before offering classes via online/distance to students who reside outside Washington state, Bellevue College, like all other higher education institutions, must obtain authorization from those states in order to offer classes to their residents. At this time, due to extraordinarily high costs to obtain authorization, and/or other limiting factors, we regret that Bellevue College cannot offer distance education classes to students who live in Kentucky and Puerto Rico. Other states may have restrictions for certain online programs that require licensure and/or internships, externships, clinicals and practicums. Please contact susan.hampson@bellevuecollege.edu for more information.
We offer some of our courses online, and some synchronously (meaning that students can attend either in person or remotely, via the Internet). It may be possible to arrange for clinical practicum at a hospital or clinic near you. Contact the RAIS Program Manager at 425-564-3170, or rais@bellevuecollege.edu for details.
How long will it take me to finish?
For students who have satisfied all prerequisites, the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree comprises 90 credits that can be completed in eight quarters of full-time attendance. Part-time students can complete the program in approximately 10 – 12 quarters if taking an average of 10 credits per quarter. Admitted students are expected to take at least one class per quarter. Advanced Certificate students can expect to complete the program in 4-6 quarters.
Is there a required sequence for courses that I should take?
You will be able to build on your body of knowledge if certain courses are taken before others. Your Program Manager will help you design a program of study that will help you get the most benefit from each course.
What if I already have an advanced certification, or have taken some advanced technical courses?
It is possible to earn up to a maximum of 30 credits for advanced certification or proof of successful completion of specific advanced technical courses. When you are admitted to the program, the Program Manager will review your transcripts with you, and decide if you qualify to apply for credit for earned courses and certifications. Once it is determined you are eligible for credit, the Program Manager will assist you with the process. More information on the process.
Can I reapply next year if I am not accepted into the program?
You will receive a letter advising you of what additional courses you need to take or what else you can do to strengthen your application for the next time you apply.
