Submission Steps

Step 1: Conduct Research and Write the Paper

The Writing Lab in the Academic Success Center is a great resource for this project.

Remember if it’s a study with human subjects, you must have IRB approval (Institutional Review Board) before you begin any research.

Step 2: Collect Remaining Submission Components

An appendix? Letter of recommendation? Unofficial transcript? Signed statement about the originality of your work? Make sure you have what you need.

Step 4: Review Stage

A panel of reviewers, including one from the discipline(s) of the project, will review the submission. Reviewers can accept the paper as-is for publication, suggest edits (starting the revise and resubmit process (R+R)), or reject the paper. This step can take up to five weeks.

Step 5: Revise and Resubmit

Look over the suggestions made by reviewers. Make changes and resubmit via email to the Editor.

It is possible that not all papers will reach the R+R stage. Ensuring you have a high quality paper with your own original ideas and words along with faculty mentoring will dramatically improve your chance of publication.

Step 6: Publication

Once enough submissions have been approved, the issue will be designed and published online.

Haven’t started yet?

Many classes offer opportunities for research paper writing. If you already did the research but haven’t written the paper, make sure you check out the Writing Lab in the ASC. Don’t forget all submissions require a faculty recommendation as well.
