Early Alert Success Stories

  • A student was detained by ICE and is still in custody. She could not drop her courses because she did not have computer access. The student’s instructor submitted an Early Alert for non-attendance, which triggered a series of fortunate events. Because of the instructor’s swift action to submit an Early Alert the student was administratively dropped from their class, Financial Aid was notified of the situation, and the appropriate action was taken to ensure the student’s aid eligibility would not be negatively impacted for the future.
  • A student moved in with his 91-year-old grandmother just before the start of the quarter. His new role, in addition to being a student, was to be her caregiver. He was extremely stressed out caring for her, taking her to medical appointments and trying to take her out whilst also working to ensure she stays safe and healthy. Because of these the added responsibilities of caring for his grandmother, he missed several classes. During the Early Alert call he shared how stressed he had been. When asked if he would like to receive a call from BC Counseling he said yes and was enthusiastic to receive support.
  • A student was excited to take college courses and be around more mature people….and then everything went online. He doesn’t like online learning, and finds himself struggling with motivation. After an Early Alert phone conversation with this student, BC Counseling reached out and he was offered support to help him complete the quarter.
