Equity Fund

Bellevue College’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion’s (ODEI) institutional Equity Fund aims to reinforce the institutional capacity to provide supportive resources to faculty, staff, affinity group organizations, and other institutional partners.  The equity funding is a provision to support the funding needs to acquire training, continued education, cultural events, identity-based programs, social justice, wellness, and/or culture shifting institutional advancing actions that centers specific or broad issues of social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. These funds should be used to support, extend, or affirm projects that demonstrate direct alignment with the core goals of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Bellevue Colleges institutional capacity to impact change in the wider community.

The purpose of this funding stream is not to finance programmatic activities as a guaranteed funding resource but as a resource request for support. A variety of reviews and approaches will be used to adjudicate all funding requests which contribute to the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion’s ability to strengthen and structure the sustainability of positive, productive, constructive, and diverse socially just actions supported by this office.

All proposal requests should align with two or more core ODEI Social Justice Goals:

  • Train, guide, and inform Bellevue College on social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Affirm diversity and an equitable, inclusive workplace 
  • Promote an experience of belonging and a commitment to cultural advocacy
  • Eradicate injustice and oppressive power structures through culture-shifting actions and constructive discourse
  • Provide standard, select, and strategic programming

These funds are dedicated to advancing cultural engagement and learning for faculty and staff at Bellevue College.

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion can not support Equity fund requests for food or beverage needs. Please remember that your request will not be granted if it centers on receiving funds to purchase food or beverage items.

If your fund request is granted, all requests must provide an event, program, training, or workshop digital flyer. The flyer must display the appropriate content (Time, Date, Location, brief Bio of the speaker, Image of the speaker, Event Title, and Event summary. Event summary should not exceed 75 words).  Submit your flyer to hasaan.kirkland@bellevuecollege.edu.

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) will be responsible for adherence to requests up to $3000 and will evaluate requests using the following proposal guidelines set forth. If a fund request exceeds $3,000, the ODEI office will evaluate the level of impact to justify the expense.

  • All funding requests are expected to provide a service to the college that is accessible to everyone. This service may be covered within the event itself, if held on Bellevue College grounds or the surrounding Bellevue community. Those individuals requesting professional development funds will have to provide explanation of a workshop/training/community service/office support/etc. that will account for the service to the college.
    If a request exceeds $3,000, it may be reviewed in collaboration with the Equity Education Advisory Committee (EEAC). Please permit three – four weeks of advance notice so that all applications may receive proper review. The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will be responsible for responding to the requests under $3,000 and will evaluate requests using the inclusive content for funding guidelines.
