About Us

Social Justice Center Office

SJC ‘s Vision is to be a beacon of social justice education, action, and inspiration for Bellevue College and the community with commitment to uplifting a diversity of identities with equity, inclusion, justice and belonging as a north star for structural change and transformation.  

SJC’s Mission is to provide equity-centered education, training, professional development, restorative practices, and culturally sustaining and programming that engages Bellevue College with social justice at its core.  

SJC’s Goals are to:

  • Train, guide, and inform Bellevue College on Social Justice and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Affirm diversity and an equitable, inclusive workplace 
  • Promote an experience of belonging and a commitment to cultural advocacy
  • Eradicate injustice and oppressive power structures through culture-shifting actions and constructive discourse
  • Provide standard, select, and strategic programming

These goals are offered to the wider community with awareness, and solidarity toward thepromotion of an equitable and inclusive community. 

Social Justice Center Staff

SJC’s Objectives:

  • Drive meaningful capacity building that creates greater equity of outcomes through communication, listening, relationships, and dignity. 
  • Provide professional development programming and a commitment to learning resources on race, conflict, gender equity, wellness, respect, and social justice.
  • Support underrepresented and historically excluded community engagement with resources that provide solidarity, restorative care, strategic rest, a BC culture shift, and meaningful dialogue around the richness of diversity, and importance of equity, and inclusion.

 The SJC PATH Programming is to have standard and select calendared actions that activate a brave space, providing resources that train, guide, inform, and empower continuous learning with a commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Restorative Hours for Faculty: Tuesdays | 9:30-10:30AM | Social Justice Center B207 & Teams

Drop in to ask questions about restorative practices and get 1-1 support with techniques to build community and navigate issues in your classrooms, teams, and/or department.


Umoja – The Village Drop-in Hours: Tuesday’s | 9:00AM – 5:00PM | Social Justice Center B215

The Social Justice Center’s mission is to provide equity-centered education, training, professional development, restorative practices, and culturally sustaining programming that engages Bellevue College with social justice at its core. 

Social Justice Center Staff
The Social Justice Center (B215) supports the Umoja Scholars Program which is dedicated to enhancing the cultural and educational experiences of Black, African American, and other students. On these days, The SJC and Umoja supports student success through ethnocentric curriculum and pedagogy responsive to the legacy of the African and African American Diasporas and experiences of students.

Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion Social Justice Center Drop-in/Lunch w/ODEI Hour: Every Wednesday from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM | Social Justice Center B207

An open drop-in/Lunch with ODEI hour is set to allow Bellevue College’s community to visit the SJC, bring lunch, and engage with the Acting Director of Diversity in the Social Justice Center. Share in the space and provide your perspective, insight, and resources related to the Social Justice Center’s mission.

Intersectionality in a Multigenerational WorkplaceJan 9, 2025 | 10:30AM-12:00PM | Social Justice Center B207

The Social Justice Center (B207) promotes social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion with a training workshop led by Roderick Morrison, ESQ on the topic of the importance of Intersectionality in a Multigenerational Workplace. This training workshop will discuss the complexities that exist when working in a multigenerational organization and how to navigate them for collective success. Morrison will unpack the dynamics of working in an intergenerational workplace and exploring methods toward developing tools to sharpen our perspectives and approaches to foster inclusion. This training will have a particular focus on unpacking historical context as it relates to the experiences of multiple generations. The event is open to faculty, staff, and students.

“SJC Social”: Wed, Jan 29, 2025 | 11:00AM – 3:00PM | Social Justice Center B207 & 215

The SJC Social is an open time for Bellevue College to connect with the Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion. We invite all to drop in to share, connect, and gather as a community. We will have games, good times, conversations, a few treats, and lots of positive energy to celebrate the impact we all create by shifting the culture toward social justice and empowering each other toward an inclusive and equitable experience.

The SJC’s objectives are:

  • Train, guide, and inform Bellevue College on Social Justice and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Affirm diversity and an equitable, inclusive workplace
  • Promote an experience of belonging and a commitment to cultural advocacy

Film & Documentary Series for Diversity and Social Justice: (Starting Jan 24th) Every Friday | 10:30AM – 2:30PM | Social Justice Center B207

The Social Justice Center (B207) promotes diversity through critical discussions that shift culture, advocates for change and awareness on topics of social justice, and it affirms the inclusion of culture through Book Talks, Art, or Film & Documentary Series. Film & Documentaries can be recommended for review to be shared through the SJC. All Film & Documentaries will be vetted, selected, and approved by the Social Justice Director under the guidance of the VP of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Social Justice Center Wellness Series (W) Minna Kim & Tory Trujillo: February 20, 2025| 11AM – 2:00PM | Social Justice Center B207

All are welcome to explore this wellness place. The SJC will be configured to support the wellness of all who attend with a variety of stations on various topics at the intersection of wellness and co-liberation that can be explored individually. There will be one sound healing session will be co-facilitated by Minna Kim and Tory Trujillo from 12-1pm. Minna Kim will offer guided meditation, and Tory will offer sound healing. The hour before and after the sound healing sessions, attendees are welcome to explore the stations that will be set-up throughout the space.
