At Bellevue College, we are committed to preventing gender-based violence in all its forms, including sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking. As outlined in the Clery Act and VAWA (Violence Against Women Act), we uphold policies and provide educational opportunities that promote awareness, accountability, and support.
One of the most powerful tools we have is bystander intervention, recognizing harmful or potentially harmful situations and choosing to respond in a safe and effective way.
What Is Bystander Intervention?
A bystander is anyone who observes a situation but isn’t directly involved. A proactive bystander is someone who chooses to intervene—before, during, or after a problematic behavior—to prevent harm or support someone affected.
Whether you’re a student walking to class or an employee attending a work event, we all have a role in keeping our campus safe.
