Student Stories: Share Night Interviewing Tips

Share Night, November 29, was the culmination of a noteworthy day for 4th year students. Earlier in the day they completed two mock interviews with professionals from various community businesses, and on Share Night they elicited interviewing tips from people attending the event. The intention was for students to hear suggestions from others about how to be successful during a job interview and compare that to their experience from the mock interviews.

The interviewing tips collected by the 4th year students included:

  • Be engaging,  active listening, show interviewer your personality, make them want to see they want to work with you
  • Don’t talk politics
  • Be confident in yourself
  • Turn the cell phone off before your interview
  • Come prepared, do some research on the company
  • You are interviewing them like they are interviewing you
  • Practice, practice, practice
  • Have good eye contact, be confident in your answers and have lots of energy
  • Have a question for the person who is interviewing you
  • Be positive
  • Ask interviewer why are you working here and do you like it
  • Let your personality come out
