Student Stories: Student Life Summer Retreat

A few OLS students attended the annual Bellevue College Student Life Summer Retreat at Camp Casey in June. Camp Casey is an overnight camp where students are encouraged to build relationships and trust within a group environment, all while learning about their own strengths, values, and leadership styles.

At the retreat students learn fundamental leadership skills like communication styles, developing empathy, and thinking ethically. In addition students spend a day as a team on a challenge ropes course where they learn to put their leadership and team building skills to the test. This is an opportunity for students to network and bond with other leaders, teammates, and advisors. Students were required to think critically and advocate for themselves in order for their team to be successful in completing tasks/challenges. It was a positive experience reflecting on the importance of team building in any environment, reassuring although we all have weaknesses, the beauty of being part of team is that you can compliment each other’s strengths and weaknesses to succeed.

OLS students Ingrid, JoAnn, Matthias were recognized at the retreat and got to pass the “Spirit Stick.” Ingrid was recognized for never giving up, JoAnn for her positive attitude, and Matthias for his preparedness.
