First Mock Interviews

Last quarter first year students got some great practice interviewing for a job in their first mock interview as part of the Communication in the Workplace course. These mock interviews are conducted by professionals from various local businesses and Bellevue College who volunteer their time to take on the role of the interviewer.

This mock interview activity was designed to give students a taste of what job interviews are like and some of the preparation that is necessary. They spent time preparing for the interview over the course of four class sessions, including developing their “elevator pitch” (also known as a “60-second sell”), which they pitched during their mock interview.

Most importantly though, it was a learning experience they will build on in future mock interviews at OLS. Over the course of their time in the OLS program, students will participate in three mock interviews.

When asked to talk about one thing they learned after participating in this activity, one student said, “I learned that I am a good person, and if I can speak out for myself like I did in this interview I can be seen as a person who can accomplish things.”

Communication in the Workplace is one of the many courses OLS Students take to obtain their associate degree from OLS. More information about our curriculum is available on our website. To learn more about our program register for an Information Session.
