Zoom Yoga Session with Lexie Harding

On Wednesday, April 29, the Yoga class got to mix things up by participating in a yoga session with Lexie Harding, a yoga instructor from Tennessee who has been teaching group and private classes the past seven years. Lexie graduated from YogaWorks in 2012 and will complete her 300-hour teacher training program this fall.

Throughout the first few weeks of the quarter, the course focuses on some basic foundational yoga poses. Some examples are Warrior 1, Forward Fold, Plank, or Downward Dog. These foundational poses are the building blocks of many common yoga practices. These postures are meant to strengthen muscles, stretch the body, and get students focused on the connection of breath and movement. Once the basics have been covered, the course moves into basic sun salutations and beginning “flow” practices. Flow is when poses are connected into more of a constant motion.

During the zoom session with Lexie, students learned, and practiced what is commonly called Sun Salutation A. Sun Salutation A is a mixture of 5 or 6 basic yoga poses that was designed to warm up the body and the spine. This is a popular beginning in many types of yoga classes and is a sequence of moments that create a rhythm to move from one pose to the next.

Yoga helps students experience and connect skills needed while living a healthy lifestyle. A sun salutation, or any foundational yoga pose, is a great way to start any kind of exercise any day. Yoga is also a great way to relieve stress and anxiety. Yoga provides quality time to connect with your body and calm your mind. Stretching is such an important part of keeping our bodies healthy.

Yoga is a popular and common practice used worldwide to improve mental and physical health. OLS students are provided a safe and supportive environment to learn the building blocks of yoga and breath meditation.

Yoga is one of the elective courses OLS Students can take to obtain their associate degree from OLS. More information about our curriculum is available on our website. To learn more about our program register for an upcoming Information Session.
