Position Summary
Bellevue College Student Engagement is committed to enriching student life by providing engagement and leadership opportunities that empower student to find their passion, build community and grow to be better world citizens who contribute to a vibrant and diverse campus culture.
Student Engagement also provides events, activities and outlets for purposeful involvement with a student development centered approach and a commitment to foster student success academically, personally and professionally. We oversee the Student Business Center, The Watchdog student newspaper, advise the Associated Student Government and manage the Campus Activities Board.
The Bellevue College Bulldog Mascot, Brutus, attends many signature Student Engagement events like BC Bulldog Days events and other outreach and engagement activities. If you enjoy being involved in developing your campus community and bringing a sense of fun and spirit to the campus culture, then you should consider applying to be a BC Bulldog Mascot.
The successful candidate demonstrates a commitment to Bellevue College’s mission and values and a sensitivity and care for students and guests from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities, and the proven ability to effectively balance academic, work, and personal responsibilities.
Term of employment is Fall 2024 through Spring 2025 and may include opportunities occasionally during quarter breaks.
Qualifications and Requirements
Academic Standing
At the time of hire, students must:
- Be enrolled in at least seven credits at Bellevue College (except summer)
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Be in good standing with Student Conduct
- Plan to remain in the position for one full academic year (Fall to Spring)
While in the position, students must:
- Be enrolled in at least seven credits at Bellevue College each quarter (except summer)
- Maintain minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and not fall below a 2.5 quarterly GPA for more than one consecutive quarter
- Remain in good standing with Student Conduct
Schedule and Commitment
Students will be required to allocate 20 – 30 hours per quarter to serve as a Student Mascot.
This will include preparation time, time in the suit and post-performance.
Compensation
Students serving as BC Bulldog Mascots will receive a BC Foundation Scholarship of $2000 that will be divided evenly across Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters. Foundation scholarships are exclusive to tuition and fees, but can also be used to purchase textbooks from the BC Bookstore if students want to utilize the Bookstore voucher process.
Mascot Training Requirement
- Attend a mascot training prior to serving as a BC mascot
- Adhere to mascot behavior best-practices (no verbal expression)
- Maintain anonymity of the mascot and refrain from disclosing when you serve in this capacity
Mascot Service Requirements
- Commit to serving in a positive and engaging manner for all Mascot engagements
- Share available schedule with the Director of Student Engagement
- Work collaboratively with Student Engagement to determine high impact opportunities for the Bulldog Mascot to be present
- Work around class schedule to represent BC as Brutus
- Work with designated Mascot handler in a professional and pro-active manner
- If needing to cancel a Mascot engagement, work with team to find a replacement
- Carefully maintain Mascot suit and associated accessories/equipment
