The Juneau-Douglas High School girls soccer team’s leading scorer is making the leap to the college ranks. Malia Miller, a senior forward who scored a program-best 29 goals last season, signed a National Letter of Intent on Thursday with Bellevue College, a junior college near Seattle in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC).
BC freshman Alexis Johnson has been the spark plug for the fourth-ranked Bulldogs this season helping to lead them team to a 11-0-1 overall start and a tie for first place in the West Region.
Through the first 40 minutes of Saturday’s match with Bellevue, the Lower Columbia College Red Devils were aggressive and controlled the ball. But Bellevue netted goals in the 40th and 44th minutes to take a 3-1 lead at the break en route to a 7-1 win in women’s soccer.
Kameron Jaramillo is one of the pillars of the Bulldogs’ defense that has only allowed 4 goals in 6 matches in her role as center back. Last week, Jaramillo scored against the top-ranked and defending NWAC champions, Highline College, in a 2-2 tie.
