Adjusting To Life At Bellevue College
Learning to live in another country can be scary and difficult. Even if you can speak the language, there are many reasons why it may be challenging to adjust to your new life. The differences in culture, food, the way people talk to each other, sounds, smells and other issues can make the adjustment very challenging. When people have a hard time adjusting, they may become homesick, depressed, angry or ill.
One of the best ways to overcome this is to make new friends! Learn as much as you can about your host country’s culture. An easy way to do this is to become involved with your school’s campus activities.
Did you know that BC has more than 80 active clubs and 60 programs? Joining a club or program is a great way to meet new friends and learn about other cultures. Students who get involved with activities on campus are less likely to get homesick, and more likely to adjust to adjust to their new life. Another way to make friends is to join in International Education’s activities that are offered each quarter. Some examples of the activities are bowling, parties, snow tubing, going to area festivals, attending local sporting events and many other fun events! You will receive get an email letting you know about the activity and what you need to do to sign up.
Living in a new country and going to a new school can be scary at first, but once you get settled in, it can be the best experience of your life time!
