Full Professor, Music Program Chair, Director of Choral and Vocal Music Activities

Biography:

Thomas Almli has been Director of Choral Music Activities at Bellevue College since 2002 and is the current Chairman of the Music Department, and is also serving as the Chairman of the Theater Arts Department of Dance and Drama. Professor Almli directs the acclaimed, award-winning Celebration Jazz Singers and The BC Chamber Singers. He also teaches Music Theory, History of Jazz, and Music Appreciation, and is active as a private voice and conducting teacher.

Maestro Almli’s Awards include: Tacoma Arts Commission Outstanding Educator, Bellevue Arts Commission Excellence Award, and Bellevue College Pillar of the Foundation Award as well as Performance awards and invitations from ACDA, NWACDA, IAJE, and JEN. Thomas Almli attended Pacific Lutheran University and Luther College for undergraduate studies (BAE Music & BM Music, BFA Theater/Dance), and the University of Washington for graduate school (MEd) and Doctoral Studies (Choral Conducting DMA).

Almli maintains an active academic and private voice studio, and he specializes in science-based voice pedagogy in classical, contemporary commercial music(CCM), vocal jazz, and musical theater genres.

Professor Almli also serves as the Artistic Director of the Federal Way Chorale. He is a sought-after clinician, adjudicator, arranger/composer, and is an active member of ADCA, WMEA, NAfME, NCCO, JEN, and NATS.
