Biography:

Professor Amy Swanson, MPH, is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University with a BS in Exercise Science and Wellness. She is a full-time, Senior Associate Professor as well as the Program Chair of the Health and PE department at Bellevue College.  Post-undergrad she spent seven years managing onsite health and wellness programs for various Seattle area corporations. This included creating health promotion programs that addressed heart health education, desk wellness, and walking programs.  She holds a Master of Public Health in Health Promotion from University of Arizona Tucson.  In 2013 she started her own health coaching and personal training business while teaching part-time here at BC. She has been personal training for 10 years and teaches a majority of the personal trainer certificate program classes. Professor Swanson is a Certified Personal Trainer (ACSM) and ACE Health Coach, and BASI Pilates Instructor as well.

She strives to use her real-life experiences to enhance her classroom teaching. Having been in the field for many years, Professor Swanson aims to make daily connections to what students are interested in or passionate about! She is committed to teaching and guiding professional, hardworking, and quality fitness instructors so they may enter the field and change lives. She holds the highest standards for her classrooms and encourages students to work hard, be thoughtful, and strive for their best work.

In her spare time, Professor Swanson loves to spend time with her husband, rescue dog and training for triathlons.  She has completes six half iron-man triathlons and countless half marathons.  When she is not on campus or in the fitness center your best bet is to find her outdoors swimming, biking, or running!
