Pathways Advising FAQs

What is pathways advising?

Bellevue College is transitioning to a Guided Pathways model. Guided pathways is a movement that seeks to streamline student success and provide structure support, clear learning outcomes, and collaboration so help students achieve their college completion goals. What might have worked in the past no longer serves students as we wish to. Therefore, we must adapt and improve together.

The four pillars (goals) of Guided pathways are:

  1. Clarify pathways to end goals
  2. Help students choose and enter pathways
  3. Help students stay on path
  4. Ensure students are learning

Will Academic Advisors who had offices in the Divisions still be located there?

Yes. You can still connect with Jonny, Marina, and Deanne in their former locations once we are back on campus.

Will Advisors continue to connect with faculty?

Yes! Advisors are working directly with faculty involved in course mapping and will communicate just as before with Program Chairs and faculty regarding questions. We continue to be available for class visits and consultations.

What about Academic Advisors who advised for specific transfer programs?

BC Pathways include both transfer and professional technical programs. It is important that students understand their options and are not bounced between advisors.

Can you tell me more about the new TargetX tool?

It is currently being rolled out within Student Affairs so that we can better communicate and provide support to students. Currently advisors are using TargetX for keeping notes, saving Education Plans, and providing follow-up.

How can I connect with an advisor?  How can students connect with an advisor?

Information about advisor designations and scheduling will continue to be updated on our website

What about students who were already working with an advisor? Can they still work with that person?

Yes!  We want to make sure that students continue to foster previous relationships with advisors. Starting Winter 2021, students will be assigned an advisor based on Program and overall Pathway.

What about Academic Advisors who advised for specific transfer programs?

BC Pathways include both transfer and professional technical programs. It is important that students understand their options and are not bounced between advisors. Please connect students interested in transferring to a university to BC’s University Transfer Center.
