BC sophomore middle hitter Carlee Rowell was named the Under Armour NWAC volleyball player of the week, the conference announced Sept. 12. Rowell had 76 kills on a 37.2% hitting efficiency with 17 blocks (15 solo) and 15 aces in 26 sets last week.
Another outstanding transfer brings maturity to the Lady Argo’s program after having a young core group last fall. First-Team All-American outside hitter Averi Dyer from Bellevue College is the second transfer to sign with the Lady Argos for the 2018 Recruiting Class.
BC sophomore Averi Dyer was named a first-team Two-Year College All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Dyer, an outside hitter, helped the Bulldogs to the NWAC North Region title and a second-place finish in the 2017 NWAC Championships.
Bellevue College was well-represented on the 2017 NWAC Fall Sports Academic Excellence Awards with seven student-athletes named to the list. Four BC men’s soccer players received conference academic recognition, along with two members of the women’s soccer team and one volleyball player.
Down two sets to one, halfway thru the fourth set, top-ranked Chemeketa was trailing seventh-ranked Bellevue 11-4 after surrendering eight straight points. Then the Storm ran off a 21-10 run to end the fourth set in a 25-21 win. The Storm then won the deciding set.
The Chemeketa Storm and Bellevue Bulldogs will square off Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center in Tacoma, Wash. The match will feature the NWAC’s top two teams in kill efficiency. The Bulldogs had the top number .243 followed by the Storm’s .229.Chemeketa came into the tournament ranked No. 1 and is riding a 23-win match streak.
The Bellevue College volleyball team has matured into a contender entering the NWCA Championship Tournament. Then again, with just three returning sophomores, it’s not like the Bulldogs had a choice. The North Region champion Bulldogs open the NWAC Championships against Spokane on Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center.
Freshman Kyla Mellick came out of a reserve role and helped Bellevue with two big wins in loser-bracket play leading BC to a seventh-place finish. Bellevue College volleyball coach Jocelyn Lawrence has been named NWAC North Region Coach of the Year and Bulldogs players Audrey Saelens and Kendle Valade-Nunez earned first team all-region honors. Sophomore Shea O’Brien and freshman Averi Dyer were named to the North Region second team.
