Beyond the Appointment

Beyond the Appointment

Prior to the start of your academic advising appointment and throughout your time at Bellevue College, it is helpful to review your progress towards your degree or certificate. This can be done by using a degree planning worksheet specific to your program and start year.

The most important thing to do is to meet with your academic advisor to create an academic plan. We recommend students check in with their advisors on a quarterly basis to revise their academic plans to incorporate any program changes. Remember, it is never too early to start planning your pathway into a program!

Additional Helpful Information

Ready to get started at Bellevue College? Follow these steps to apply, explore programs, and prepare for your first quarter.

  1. Visit the Welcome Center and start your application.
  2. Schedule English and Math placement tests.
  3. Explore Bellevue College Pathway Course Maps.
  4. Connect with Your Pathway Advisor.
  5. Enroll for classes.

Students are encouraged to speak with their Academic, Program, and Financial Aid advisors before withdrawing/dropping a class to understand the potential academic, financial, and personal impacts.

Do I Need a Permission Number?

Most courses do not require a permission number; however, a field to enter one will still appear when enrolling in any course—even those that don’t require it.

  • Permission codes are typically required in the following situations:
    • To enroll during the Instructor Permission Enrollment.
    • To bypass course prerequisites.
    • To enroll in a course that is already full (unlikely to be granted).
  • First Three Days of the Quarter
    • Classes with available seats: No permission number required.
    • Re-enrollment after drop for non-payment: No permission number required.
  • During Instructor Permission Enrollment Period (See the Academic Calendar for each quarter)
  • Classes with Prerequisites
    • Students who have not met course prerequisites but have relevant experience or prior coursework may be eligible for a prerequisite waiver. To request consideration, contact the course instructor first, then the program chair to request a permission number.

Waitlist Information

If a class is full, you have the option of adding your name to a waitlist.

Students may choose to audit a class during registration or switch to an audit within the first 10 instructional days of the quarter.

An incomplete (I) grade provides students who are unable to complete a class on schedule with the option of completing the class at a later date without a second registration or tuition and fee payment.

Students who receive an incomplete grade may not attend the class in a subsequent quarter. Issuing an incomplete grade is at the discretion of the instructor; instructors may not issue an incomplete grade without student consent.

Students may dispute a grade starting when it is issued, but no later than one (1) quarter after the final grade is posted to their transcript.

Students can switch plans by either:

  • Registering for classes directly, or
  • Meeting with an advisor before registering

If class space is limited, students may enroll first and meet with an advisor afterward.
