3D Scanned Italian Abbey & Interactive Enigma: A Prototype Experience with iPhone and AI

italy3Dvista

Nestled in the beautiful Tuscan landscape, the 14th-century Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore has been a source of inspiration for generations. We used this location blending technology and history to create a unique experience.

Using only an iPhone and the Polycam app we 3D scanned the abbey’s cloister, capturing its intricate details.  Artificial intelligence played a crucial role in crafting an interactive enigma, inviting users to step into the history and art of the abbey.

To complete our project, we imported the 3D model generated with Polycam into 3DVista. Leveraging their first-person walk feature, we provided users with the unique opportunity to explore the cloister as if they were truly present in the 14th century. As they wandered through the digital reconstruction, they encountered the enigma created by AI, offering a puzzle to solve, adding an engaging layer to the experience.

Thanks to accessible technology, the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore now welcomes all to explore its history and art in a whole new way. This project proves that history can be an immersive journey for everyone, bridging the past and the present.
