An Interview with BC Alum Nancy Moore
Nancy is a Registered Nurse at Overlake Medical Center & Clinics. She graduated Bellevue College with the Class of 2018, with her AA in Nursing.
Prior to enrolling in courses at BC, what was your educational background and/or profession?
I only had my high school diploma from Mexico, and I worked catering for private events.
What prompted you to come to BC and choose the coursework you pursued?
Ever since I was a little kid, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field, but I was not exactly sure what I wanted to do.
While taking prerequisite courses, I attended a nursing info session given by a former dean. Her excitement and passion for nursing sparked my interest in the field. The holistic approach to nursing care combined with the intellectual challenge are some of the reasons why I chose nursing.
I chose to attend the BC nursing program because it is one of the best ADN programs in the Puget Sound area, their reputation is great among local hospitals, and NCLEX passing rates are better than UW!
When not in the classroom, was there a spot on campus you enjoyed going to? If so, what made that space enjoyable?
I like the T Building; it is so open and bright! I would usually go in early before class and sit by a window and review my notes before class, the natural light helped me stay awake and focus!
Do you have a most memorable professor or course?
Yes, Naomi Jones, my anatomy and physiology professor. She is so knowledgeable and energetic. She was engaging, challenging and made taking a very difficult class at 8:00 p.m. very enjoyable!
How do you use your experiences at BC to make an impact in our community today?
As an RN, one of our goals is to provide the highest quality care to our patients. The BC nursing program prepared me well to serve my community through my work at Overlake in a safe and competent way.
What kind of impacts would you like donors to know they have when they support opportunities at BC?
By supporting BC, they help keep the cost of quality education affordable to many immigrants like myself, who have big dreams and motivation, but cannot afford private universities or do not qualify for loans.
What value do you see BC, as a whole organization, has to our region?
BC offers high-quality, affordable education!
How do you give back to your community?
I recently moved to Bellevue from Seattle, and when I lived there I was a volunteer for the Seattle Public Library as a Homework Helper.
Give a BC student a future like Nancy’s today!
