Writing is essential to the health sciences. Whether you’re working on a research paper, a report, or a discussion post, writing remains your primary tool for sharing ideas and communicating with peers or experts. Contrary to what you may think, writing is not an innate ability or talent; it is a learned skill. And like any other skill, it must be studied and practiced. All good writers, including your professors and the authors of your textbooks, revise and rewrite their work as much as they can. It is a process that takes time, so give it that and ask for help. The following services are here to support you in your writing journey.
HSEWI Writing Specialist
HSEWI students have access to free writing-coaching services with our HSEWI Writing Specialist, Alex Jones. She is available to meet virtually to talk about an assignment or any stage in the writing process. Schedule some time with Alex via Bookings at HSEWI Writing Support. You can also send Alex a draft of your paper and she’ll give you advice.
Academic Success Center
Did you know that Bellevue College offers one-on-one tutoring and writing support? The Academic Success Center located in Building D Room 204, is another place you can go for help with your writing needs. Their Writing Lab features writing and grammar support, writing strategies, and workshops. Feel free to drop-in or make an appointment ahead of time. For those who can’t make it to campus, the Academic Success Center also offers online tutoring for writing and other subjects via the eTutoring Consortium.
Library Media Center
The Bellevue College Library Media Center is your one-stop shop for research. With your Bellevue College username, you can access dozens of databases online or thousands of print materials in-person. Most of your library research will be done using the online database, so get familiar with how to navigate and search for the articles, books, and documents you need. HSEWI Liaison Librarian, Lisa Lapointe, is available to help you with your research or library needs. Lisa is also the undergraduate research librarian, so if you are a part of an HSEWI bachelor’s program, she can help you with course research, capstone projects, etc.
