Overview of the Earth and Space Science Program

The Earth and Space Sciences Program is a department within Bellevue College’s Science Division.

We offer resources such as the Science Study Center and the Astronomy department’s planetarium classroom, which recreates the clear night sky, enabling students to explore the stars, constellations, planets and even galaxies during class.

For more detailed information (such as courses, faculty, contact information, and more) about our programs, please explore each of their websites.

Our program encompasses the following five sciences:

Astronomy

Astronomy is the study of the Universe and objects in space.

Visit Astronomy Website

Environmental Science

Environmental Science is the study of how humans interact with the living and non-living parts of the natural world.

Visit Environmental Science Website

Geology

Geology is the study of the origin, history, composition, and structure of the Earth.

Visit Geology Website

Meteorology

Meteorology is the study of weather and climate.

Visit Meteorology Website

Oceanography

Oceanography is the study of the ocean and all of its living and non-living components.

Student Information

The Earth and Space Sciences Program office is located in L200, though we hold classes in locations that include our planetarium in B244.

What Are Course Maps?

Course maps were designed to address several goals that benefit students. Course maps:

  • Include a term-by-term sequencing of courses that have been recommended by faculty and advisors from a particular area
  • Help students make informed decisions
  • Help students customize and plan their educational path in consultation with an advisor
  • Help prepare students to be career or major-ready

Course maps provide suggestions and should be used with academic advising. Placement, course availability, prior credits, and program requirements may impact your course map.

Earth and Space Sciences Course Maps

We have included course maps for the sciences in our program. Most sciences in our program have two course maps, depending on your goals.

Science, Track II: Astronomy

Associate of Science – Transfer Track 2

Our transfer associate degree is intended for students wishing to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Astronomy.

Earth & Space Sciences: Astronomy AAS-DTA

Associate in Arts and Sciences

This transfer associate degree is intended for students wishing to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Earth & Space Sciences with an emphasis in Astronomy. Students should also consider the Associate in Science – Track II option for Astronomy, which is often a better fit for this intended major as it emphasizes science and math prerequisites.

Science, Track I: Environmental Science

Associate of Science – Transfer Track 1

This transfer associate degree is intended for students wishing to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science/Resources fields.

Earth & Space Sciences: Environmental Science AAS-DTA

Advising

Let Academic Advising assist you in developing your educational plan. They can help with:

  • Providing you with general academic advising
  • Explaining transfer degree requirements
  • Creating a detailed educational plan
  • Referring you to a faculty advisor once you are ready for ongoing, major-specific information

Academic Advising offers in-person and virtual appointments. Please visit their website for details and to schedule an appointment.

STEM Pathway Advising

More specific advising information is available for students on the STEM Pathway.

Academic Success Center

BC’s Academic Success Center (ASC) provides free, high-quality tutoring and learning services for all students enrolled at Bellevue College. Their mission is to help you succeed! The ASC offers:

Science Study Center (Room S114)

The Science Study Center is a multi-purpose space in the S Building where science and math students can study, work with models and microscopes, watch videos, and use specialized software on Macintosh computers. The Center also offers tutoring, review sessions, and science advising, with scheduled faculty demonstrations of course materials. Printing assignments is allowed with limits (see signage), and a general-use printer is located across the hall. The Center is staffed by Science Division faculty and tutors. For questions, contact Robert Hobbs at (425) 564-3154 or rhobbs@bellevuecollege.edu.

Bellevue College has compiled a list of various student services, including common requests such as enrolling in classes and requesting your records.

Bellevue College provides reasonable accommodation for students with disabilities. Learn about the accommodations Bellevue College provides, as well as how to request them for your classes.

Keep track of important dates and deadlines, such as the final exam schedule, BC’s academic calendar, and on-campus events.
