Course maps are a new resource for prospective and current Bellevue College students. They show a sample sequence of courses for each degree or certificate at Bellevue College, across our eight BC Pathways (areas of study).
Course maps were designed to address several goals that benefit students. Course maps:
- Include a term-by-term sequencing of courses that have been recommended by faculty and advisors from a particular area
- Help students make informed decisions
- Help students customize and plan their educational path in consultation with an advisor
- Help prepare students to be career or major-ready
Course maps provide suggestions and should be used with academic advising. Placement, course availability, prior credits and program requirements may impact your course map.
How Do I Read Course Maps?
This sample course map displays the courses needed to earn the Certificate of Achievement in Promotional Marketing. Course information is provided by quarter.
Courses are color-coded to classify each as either Major, General Education, or Elective credits. Milestone cards provide tips or suggestions for various tasks. Courses linked by a line, such as MKTG 102 and MKTG 255 in the sample, indicate that the earlier course is a prerequisite for the later course.
Each course map represents one possible path through a degree or certificate and can be customized to fit a student’s individual needs and goals.
How Do I Access Course Maps?
There are two ways to access course maps. (Please note that not all degrees have course maps yet.)
Access Course Maps by Exploring BC Pathways
The first way to access course maps is through BC Pathways. This option works well for students who are still exploring fields of interest, since you can view required courses as you learn more about the different pathways.
Selecting any pathway—a program of classes tailored to careers in your field—will allow you to explore it, as well as discover focus areas, which are specific areas of emphasis within a pathway. Focus areas display the degrees available within those areas of emphasis. You will find course map links on these degree detail pages.
For example, the course map for the bachelor’s degree in Computer Science can be found via the STEM pathway on the BC Pathways page.
Within the pathway, you’ll see focus areas, such as Computer Science.
By selecting the degree “Computer Science, BS” you can explore the degree detail page, which includes a section on course maps (when available).
Access Course Maps via Pathway Links
Do you already know your pathway? If so, we have convenient pages with all the course maps for a given pathway, allowing you to easily browse different maps. (Please note that not all degrees have course maps yet.)
