Cidi Labs Gets a Major Upgrade

There is a new version of Cidi Labs that includes a much more intuitive and user-friendly interface – it’s called the DesignPLUS Sidebar. This page will introduce you to the new interface and provide you with information and resources to make the most of this exciting update and get you up and running with the new sidebar.

What You Need to Know

  • The new DesignPLUS Sidebar launches on Nov, 7th.
  • The new Sidebar is more intuitive and user-friendly
  • You can continue using the current (legacy) interface until Dec 31st
  • Cidi Labs provides excellent training resources for the new sidebar
  • BC eLearning offers customized resources and in-person training

How would you like to move forward?

I wish to continue using the current (legacy) Cidi Labs interface (Design Tools)

How to Switch Versions

The new DesignPLUS sidebar is the default interface. However, if you would rather continue to design content using the legacy sidebar, you can use a hotkey from anywhere inside the course where you want to toggle the sidebar:

  • Mac: option + shift + V
  • PC: alt + shift + V
I have used Cidi Labs and need to update my content to the new sidebar (DesignPLUS)

Legacy content will display normally even if you’re using DesignPLUS, but you must upgrade the content if you want to edit it with the new sidebar. You will be prompted to do this inside the sidebar panel. It’s also fine to have both old and new content in the same course.

I would like to learn how to use the new Cidi Labs interface (DesignPLUS)

Live Workshops

In addition to the self-access resources below, BC eLearning is also offering live training workshops from Nov 7th to Dec 8th.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The tool should automatically pop up any time you are in edit mode and see the rich content editor. However, if it does not launch for you, it can be launched using the following hotkeys from the edit screen on a Canvas page:

  • Mac: option + shift + D
  • PC: alt + shift + D

The new DesignPLUS sidebar will pop up on your screen.

You can still access content created with the legacy version of DesignPLUS. When you edit a page created with the legacy version, you’ll be asked whether you want to convert your content to the updated version. A simple click of a button will convert your legacy content into the updated style. Check out this Styling Legacy Content guide to learn more.

If you would rather continue to design content using the legacy sidebar, simply choose:

  • Mac: option + shift + V
  • PC: alt + shift + V

Use these keys to move back and forth between the legacy and updated versions.

You can continue to create/use content using the legacy version of the DesignPLUS sidebar through Dec. 31st, 2024. After that, you will need to create or edit content using the updated version of DesignPLUS. Your legacy content will still be available after Dec. 31st, 2024, but you will no longer have access to the legacy sidebar to edit your content.

Yes. Please refer to the resources and videos posted above. If you prefer live training, please refer to the live training schedule with eLearning. There are also excellent learning resources available through Cidi Labs.

No! You can hide the DesignPLUS launch button through in the DesignPLUS user settings or simply close the sidebar when it opens.

We are excited about this upgrade and hope that you will be as well. As always, your eLearning team is here to support you and answer additional questions. Please drop by live support M-F from 11-3. There are both in-person and online support options.
