Testing

TOEFL or IELTS scores are only used for admission to BC and do not guarantee automatic placement into college English classes. If you are eligible for automatic placement into English classes, you will be notified by admissions.

English and Math Testing for College Credit Students

All BC credit-level students are required to take a placement test prior to registering for English or Math classes unless students transfer these courses in from another school. You must be admitted to the college and set up your NetID before scheduling a placement test.

English Placement: English results are valid for 2 years.

Your English results are valid for 2 years. You must take and pass a English course during this time. If you do not, you will need to take the placement test again.

If you place into English 071-074 or English 093 and feel that you should be in a higher level, you may retake the placement test. For more information about Bellevue College testing policies and process see Placement Testing Directions and Information.

Math Placement: Math results are valid for 1 year.

Your Math results are valid for 1 year. You must take and pass a math course during this time. If you do not, you will need to take the placement test again.

You may take the math test more than once, but after your first test, you must use the ALEKS practice modules before retaking the test. You cannot bring your own calculator to the test, but the Office of Testing Services can provide you with one.
