Continues JAPN& 121. Continues to develop listening, speaking, and reading and writing skills of Japanese. Some basic kanji characters and relevant aspects of Japanese culture are introduced. Prerequisite: JAPN& 121 permission of instructor.


After completing this class, students should be able to:

  • Write a Japanese address on a Japanese postcard

  • Talk about one’s marital status, location of residence, and place ofemployment
  • Talk about one’s family
  • Give a description of a person
  • Count people
  • Explain the purpose of going to a certain location
  • Connect two sentences into one
  • Address and write a postcard and a letter
  • Use the informal speech style for casual conversations
  • Make a guess about a person, place, or an item
  • Report what someone was saying
  • Ask someone not to do something
  • Talk about what one is good at or poor at
