Audio description guidance

Before posting or sharing, all important visual elements of a video recording need to be described either during the recording or by adding an audio description track to the video after recording.

Essential visual elements could include scenes, the passage of time, color, shape, actions, processes, demonstrations, reactions, graphs, and images.

If a prerecorded video includes essential visual elements that are not described during the recording, then audio descriptions need to be added. In some cases, you may be able to send out your video to be audio described by a service.

Instructors can store their videos in Panopto and take advantage of the audio description editor to add audio descriptions to previously recorded videos. Please see the audio description resources in the Resource Links section of this page.
