The Bellevue College Foundation recently hosted its most successful event to date, drawing a generous crowd and hitting a record-breaking milestone with nearly $400,000 in donations. Gala 2024, held on Saturday, March 9, was a celebration of community and collaboration, with the goal to significantly enhance the educational experiences of Bellevue College students for years to come.

The evening was marked by laughter, spirited bidding, and the collective goodwill of attendees who showed their unwavering support for transforming students’ lives. The night began with a cocktail reception, where guests mingled and participated in a silent auction.

Attendees enjoyed a plated dinner as they heard from Dana Gray, the Foundation’s Board of Directors chair, and Bellevue College President David May before engaging in the excitement of a live auction. Energetic bidding wars ensued for a variety of experiences ranging from a Midlakes United and Postdoc brewing package to a three-night stay at Cave B Ridge — all to support a noble cause. The “Raise the Paddle for Student Success” activity alone brought in $135,000, representing a commitment to the future of education, innovation, and the students at Bellevue College.

“I’m continuously amazed at our community’s ability to show up for Bellevue College students,” May said. “Our donors’ extraordinary support opens doors of opportunity for an untold number of students, empowering them to achieve their dreams and shape a brighter future. Together, we’re not just investing in education; we’re investing in the promise of tomorrow.”

Student speaker Brenda Tirado shared her own personal story that led to her becoming a Bellevue College student and seeking Bellevue College Foundation’s help through their annual scholarships.

“Prior to getting scholarship support, I had spent every day being uncertain if tomorrow was going to be better,“ Tirado said. “The constant struggles and worries I had are now lifted. It has been amazing to be able to count on the Foundation to cover my remaining tuition costs each quarter.”

Funds raised at the gala will go toward many initiatives, including the Foundation’s scholarship programs, which will award over $700,000 in the 2023-24 academic year. Additionally, the Safety Net program will continue to offer crucial short-term aid to students in need, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder academic success.

“We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of generosity we witnessed tonight,” said Melissa Johnson, Foundation executive director. “Hitting nearly $400,000 in donations is a testament to the power of collective action and our community’s high regard for Bellevue College and its mission. Each donation is a building block for our students’ success and a brighter future.”

The Bellevue College Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to all attendees, donors, and volunteers who made Gala 2024 an unforgettable night of fun, philanthropy, and hope.
