Sep 17, 2026

Earlier this week, I shared an update on our ongoing negotiations with BCAHE, our faculty association, and how those negotiations are playing out in the context of our budget.

Dear Bellevue College Community,

Earlier this week, I shared an update on our ongoing negotiations with BCAHE, our faculty association, and how those negotiations are playing out in the context of our budget. As part of my commitment to provide you with timely and relevant information throughout this process, I am writing today with an update on our efforts to reach a mutually beneficial agreement with BCAHE.

To read my last update, please visit the President’s Office SharePoint.

I’m pleased to share that we have agreed with BCAHE to enter into mediation through the Washington state Public Employee Relations Commission (PERC). Mediation is a common step in negotiations where a neutral mediator works with both bargaining teams to find a resolution that can be agreed to by both parties. We are grateful that Washington state has a service to support these conversations, and we are committed to engaging in good faith to advance our shared priorities of recognizing our valued faculty and serving the long-term needs of our students and community.

Looking forward

While the faculty contract has not yet been finalized, we have committed to the Legislature’s 2.6% salary increase for faculty members as of September 1. Additionally, the current contract will remain in effect until we reach an agreement.

As we enter mediation and look ahead to students returning to campus, the College will continue our active engagement in the bargaining process to reach an agreement with BCAHE soon. During that time, I’ll provide updates for the campus community. I appreciate the hard work both parties have committed to the negotiations.

In community,

Dr. David May
