Dr. Judith Hernández Chapar has been named Vice President of Student Affairs at Bellevue College.

Dear Bellevue College community,

I’m thrilled to welcome one of our own, Dr. Judith Hernández Chapar, as Bellevue College’s next Vice President of Student Affairs. She will begin in her new role effective June 1.

Having served as both Interim Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Student Support at Bellevue College, Dr. Hernández Chapar’s time, commitment, and connection to our college is significant. Her vast experience and progressive leadership throughout her 15 years of higher education across the state system are proven assets that have prepared her well for this position.

Dr. Hernández Chapar has successfully managed multiple teams, projects, budgets, and actively collaborated with faculty and staff in supporting and centering students as they pursue their education. Her experience includes roles as Director of the Teaching and Learning Center at Clark College, Associate Dean of Title III and First Year Experience at South Puget Sound Community College, and Director of TRIO Programs at Lower Columbia College.

In her role as Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Hernández Chapar will be responsible for leading programs, services, and activities within the division, which includes departments such as Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, International Education, Student Support, Conduct, and Student Life.  She will continue to work closely with staff, faculty, and administration to increase student persistence, retention, and academic success, all through the lens of equity, access, and diversity. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Hernández Chapar to her new position at Bellevue College. I am confident that she will lead us in the continued support and success of our students as Vice President of Student Affairs.
