  • BC ranked tied – No. 1 for return on investment among public colleges in Washington.
  • BC ranked No. 1 – best community colleges in Washington.
  • BC ranked No. 3 – best public colleges in Washington.
  • BC ranked No. 8 – most affordable colleges in Washington.
  • BC ranked No. 13 – best nursing school in Washington.
  • BC recognized by the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR) for communication excellence.
  • BC awarded National Science Foundation Improving Undergraduates STEM Education Grant supporting underrepresented students pursuing degrees in STEM fields.
  • BC awarded Department of Education Title III Award – providing support to improve educational outcomes for historically excluded student populations.
  • BC awarded Department of Justice Office of Violence against Women Grant supporting efforts to reduce sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking on campus.
  • BC awarded TRIO student Support Services Grant providing support services and resources to low-income, first-generation college students and students with disabilities to help student success, retention and completion.

  • BC ranked No. 1 – best school for information technology.
  • BC ranked No. 1 – best school for interior design.
  • BC recognized by the 23rd Annual Washington State Faculty and Staff of Color Conference as the top college in the state to “exemplify diversity and inclusion initiatives, along with the ability to embrace a broad definition of diversity on campus, including gender, race, ethnicity, veterans, people with disabilities, and members of the LGBT community.”
  • BC recognized by the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR) for communication excellence.
  • BC recognized by Circle of Excellence Awards (CASE) for communication excellence.
  • BC and KBCS were recognized by the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism with the Katherine Schneider Journalism Award for excellence in reporting.
  • BC recognized as a “champion of sustainability” by McKinistry.
  • Abby Lynn, student programs coordinator, Sonya Doucette, associate professor of chemistry and environmental science, and William Tribble, construction project manager were recognized by McKinistry for their individual contributions to sustainability.
  • Diane Mauldin, senior associate professor in Life Sciences, was awarded the AACC Dale P. Parnell Faculty Distinction Recognition by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).

2017

  • BC receives approval to offer Bachelor of Science degree in Digital Marketing. It becomes BC’s 12th bachelor’s degree.
  • Jono Vaughan, assistant professor of drawing and painting, was awarded the Betty Bowen Award for original, exceptional, and compelling work.
