Geological science is the study of the earth to understand its history and the physical processes that shape Earth’s surface and interior. A degree in geology prepares you for many geoscience careers including work in academic research, environmental fields, petroleum and mining, and construction consulting. Either the general associate degree (AAS-DTA) or the Science, Track I pathway are suitable for students interested in geology. Associate Degree - Transfer
Do you have a curiosity about science and weather? Do you wonder how clouds develop; why it is raining in one area and snowing in another? Do you want to learn how climate change is studied and modelled for the future? The field of meteorology (also called atmospheric science) studies day-to-day weather as well as long-term climate patterns. It will prepare you for a career in meteorology, whether it be forecasting or researching different weather phenomena. College coursework for a meteorology degree is similar to preparing to major in physics, so the Science, Track II degree is usually the best fit for students considering Meteorology.

Oceanography is the study of the Earth’s oceans, including all its living and non-living components. Oceanographers might study ocean currents, waves and tides, marine ecosystems, underwater volcanoes, or the impact of humans on the ocean. There are many sub-disciplines within this science, leading to careers such as fisheries scientist, environmental consultant, research scientist, ocean engineer, marine policy analyst, marine conservationist, and more. Either the general associate degree (AAS-DTA) or the Science, Track I pathway are suitable for students interested in oceanography. Associate Degree - Transfer
This degree prepares students for transfer to a four-year program in science. Track 1 of this degree provides a foundation in biological, environmental/resources, chemistry, and earth sciences. Students study mathematical and scientific principles and gain laboratory experience. Other coursework covers communication and critical thinking skills. Students who earn this degree can transfer to any public university in Washington State, and many independent colleges, as a junior.
Associate Degree - Transfer
This degree prepares students for transfer to a four year program in electrical and computer engineering. This track is not intended for student planning to complete their degree in computer science; those students should typically select the Associate in Arts and Science Direct Transfer Agreement. For this track, students study mathematical and scientific principles and gain laboratory experience. Other coursework covers communication and critical thinking skills. Students who earn this degree can transfer to any public university in Washington State, and many independent colleges, as a junior.
