Session Details:
Option A: PDF Decision Tree – Providing and Maintaining Accessible Course Materials
- Lead Facilitator – George Rowe
- About this session – In this session, we will explore an interactive PDF Decision Tree that will help you choose the best way to share and maintain accessible course materials. The PDF Decision Tree will guide you through a series of questions to determine whether or not you should be using a PDF at all, and which alternative formats and strategies are best for particular situations. In many cases, you will want to use accessible web pages and document formats other than PDFs that are far easier to make accessible and keep current. This session will set you in the right direction depending on your specific needs.
- Session Format – Interactive Demonstration
Option B: More than Meets the Eye – Skill-building using the Accessibility Video Decision Tree
- Lead Facilitator – Betsy Zahrt Geib
- About this session – In this session, we will utilize an accessible video decision tree/guidance to explore the new Title II rules for accessible instructional videos. You’ll learn about best practices for improving automatic captions, requirements when setting up synchronous video meetings, when and how to describe visual content, different methods for adding audio descriptions in the post recording process, and college resources to support your efforts. An opportunity to practice audio description with peers and feedback will be provided.
- Session Format – Workshop
Option A: Analytics to Inform Instruction
- Lead Facilitator – Jackie Hubbard
- About this session – What if the data you already collect could do more? Explore three real-world applications from nursing education: using Artificial Intelligence to analyze simulation feedback, streamlining preceptorship placement with specialty matching, and leveraging Canvas data to support timely student interventions. Walk away with practical ideas and replicable approaches to make your data work harder—for your students and your programs.
- Session Format: Presentation
Option B: From Clicks to Connection: Using Canvas Analytics to Support Student Success
- Lead Facilitator – Raji Sundar
- About this session – Attend this session to uncover patterns in student engagement, participation, and performance using built-in Canvas tools such as Access Logs, Course Analytics, and Quiz Analytics. Grounded in the principles of humanized online learning, this session will emphasize using data not just to measure activity, but to better understand students, build stronger connections, and promote their success.
- Session Format – Interactive Demonstration
- Lead Facilitator: Morgan Olson
- About this session: AI is showing up in college classrooms in ways that are practical, creative, and sometimes surprising. At this year’s Summer Institute, a select group of Bellevue College faculty will pull back the curtain on how they are using AI in their course design, their assignments, and with their students. Whether you are AI-curious, skeptical, or already experimenting, this is a conversation you will not want to miss.
- Session Format: Panel Discussion
Option A: What is AI literacy and why is it important?
- Lead Facilitator – George Rowe
- About this session – In this session, we will discuss AI literacy: what it IS and what it ISN’T. Specifically, we will look at what AI literacy is for educators and for students, and why AI literacy is essential grounding before forming strong pro- or anti-AI opinions, or embarking on the complicated journey of introducing AI tools within your curriculum. This session seeks to demystify some of the beliefs and potential myths surrounding AI, but also acknowledge known risks and harms of AI (and also address what we don’t know, which is a lot!). Finally, participating in this session will increase your own understanding and literacy of AI and AI tools in education.
- Session Format – Discussion
Option B: A fresh take on student evaluations using agentic AI.
- Lead Facilitator – Keith Rowley & Amilee Roberge
- About this session – Faculty are surrounded by more course data than ever—but making sense of it can be overwhelming. In this workshop, explore two AI agents that quickly analyze course evaluations and Canvas gradebooks to surface clear, actionable insights. Walk away with practical tools to save time and improve your teaching decisions.
- Session Format – Workshop
Option C: AI Tools for Creating Visual and Immersive Course Content
- Lead Facilitator – Maria Sanchez
- About this session – In this interactive demonstration, I will show simple ways to use AI tools to turn text and course content into more visually appealing learning materials. I will demonstrate how AI can support design creation in Canvas, the creation of 360 images, and the generation of 3D models for immersive educational experiences.
- Session Format – Interactive Demonstration
