Bellevue College will host music, drama, and dance performances on campus from both students and world entertainers this spring. In April, May, and June, Bellevue College’s Theatre Arts and Music departments will offer local arts and entertainment shows available to the entire community.
The college is home to Carlson Theatre, a 300-seat theater, and Stop Gap Studio, a 60-to 80-seat theater, both located in the E Building on the Bellevue College campus. General admission, ranging from free tickets to $15-$20, is affordable and accessible to all. Visitor parking ($3) and college campus maps are also available. The Theatre Arts and Music departments offer events throughout the entire academic year.

Description: João Luiz is a two-time Latin Grammy–nominated Brazilian guitarist, composer, and educator, trained in both popular and classical traditions, and a winner of the 2006 Concert Artists Guild Competition with the Brasil Guitar Duo. He has performed worldwide and is known for his versatility across classical, Brazilian, and world music, collaborating with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma and Leo Brouwer. His compositions and arrangements include major orchestral and chamber works that earned Brazil’s APCA Award for Best New Work (2024). Luiz has recorded more than 20 albums, premieres significant contemporary repertoire for guitar, and continues to commission new works. He serves as Director of Chamber Music at CUNY Hunter College and Professor of Guitar at the Yale School of Music.

Description: Set in a 1930s European perfumery, shop clerks, Amalia and Georg, more often than not, don’t see eye to eye. After both respond to a “lonely hearts advertisement” in the newspaper, they now live for the love letters that they exchange, but the identity of their admirers remains unknown. Join Amalia and Georg to discover the identity of their true loves… and all the twists and turns along the way.

The program features Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Trio No. 5 in D major, Op. 70, No. 1 (“Ghost”), Frank Bridge’s Phantasie for Piano Trio, H.79, and the premiere of Iynx, a new work by Bellevue College faculty member Dr. Brian Cobb. Florestan Chamber Music features Lauren Roth-Gómez (violin), Ruth Marshall (cello), and Garret Ross (piano).

Description: Paolo Angeli is an internationally acclaimed innovator who reimagined Sardinian tradition through the creation of the prepared Sardinian guitar, an orchestra-like instrument developed from deep traditional training and avant‑garde influence. Since the mid‑1990s, he has forged a distinctive contemporary language blending improvisation, free jazz, Mediterranean traditions, and experimental music. His global recognition includes a landmark 2018 performance at Carnegie Hall, affirming his role as a pioneering “innovator with roots.” Angeli has released 13 solo albums, collaborated with leading international musicians such as Pat Metheny, and tours major festivals worldwide while living in Spain. Featuring the Bellevue College Guitar Ensemble. World Premiere: “Kreitros” by Jeff Bowen, Composer-in-Residence.
