What is Quality Matters?
Quality Matters (QM) is a non-profit organization which is dedicated to improving the quality of online course design. Though QM has established a multi-faceted process for assuring the quality of online courses, the best place to begin is with the QM Rubric. Based upon research-supported and published best practices for online learning, the QM Rubric is a set of standards by which to evaluate the design of hybrid and online courses. The QM Rubric is organized around eight General Standards:
- Course Overview and Introduction
- Learning Objectives (Competencies)
- Assessment and Measurement
- Instructional Materials
- Course Activities and Learner Interaction
- Course Technology
- Learner Support
- Accessibility and Usability
Instructors and course designers trained in the application of the QM Rubric are better prepared to evaluate the clarity and organization of their online courses, from the student perspective, in each of the areas addressed by the eight QM Standards.
