BC’S Mayer Honored by Seattle Association for Women in Science
Every year, the Seattle Association for Women in Science (AWIS) recognizes a select number of women for their achievements in advancing science or technology, contributing to STEM education, or being outstanding mentors and leaders. BC chemistry professor Jennie Kong Mayer is one of three women who will be honored at the annual Seattle AWIS banquet on June 14. Mayer will receive the Excellence in STEM Education/Outreach award.

BC Names Ariane Hayes Dean of Health Sciences, Education, and Wellness Institute
Bellevue College (BC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ariane Hayes to the position of Dean of the Health Sciences, Education, and Wellness Institute (HSEWI). Hayes has been serving as Assistant Dean of HSEWI since the summer of 2022, working with outgoing Dean Leslie Heizer Newquist.

BC to Host Juneteenth Virtual Seattle Black History Tour
The Black Employees of Bellevue College (BEOBC) and the Black Student Union along with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are partnering with Bellevue College’s XR Lab and eLearning to present the Virtual Seattle Black History Tour on Thursday, June 15, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

BC’s Ghashmari Receives Fulbright Scholar Award
Dr. Ahmad Ghashmari, English Language Institute associate professor, has received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award for the 2023-2024 academic year. Ghashmari will be hosted by Jordan University of Science and Technology.

AWS ‘Skills to Jobs Tech Alliance’ Involves 78 Universities
The AWS initiative will partner with several major companies, workforce development organizations (including Bellevue College) and international agencies to tailor technology and upskilling programs for the job market.

U.S. Department of State Awards Grants to Expand Study Abroad Opportunities
As part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to bolster international student mobility, including increasing the number of American students who study abroad, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), announced today that 34 U.S. colleges and universities- including Bellevue College - were awarded nearly $1.2 million in grants through the 2023 Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students (IDEAS) Program grant competition.

Washington State Supreme Court Justice Mary I. Yu will address graduates as the keynote speaker for Bellevue College’s commencement ceremony, which will be held Friday, June 23, at T-Mobile Park.
