Commemorate Earth Day all month long with Bellevue College’s Earth Month event series happening now through April 30. With a goal to reach carbon neutrality by 2050, the theme for Bellevue College’s 25th annual Earth Month is “Decarbonize.”

Prior to Earth Month, Bellevue College celebrated Earth Week on campus.

From learning about climate justice to shopping at an Earth Month Market, Earth Month events will feature speakers, workshops, films, giveaways, and educational programming, and are open to all members of the community.

New this year will be a stewardship event with the Snoqualmie Tribe that includes restoration work along Tibbets Creek at Lake Sammamish State Park and a film screening of “Covenant of the Salmon People,” a documentary about the Nez Perce tribe and their work to return wild salmon to their ancestral lands.

In continuing to build partnerships with the Snoqualmie and Snohomish Tribes, Bellevue College’s Office of Sustainability and Grounds staff are working to update plant names in the arboretum on campus with Lushootseed names, a language spoken by most Coast Salish tribes. Snohomish Tribal Elder Pamela SeaMonster is heavily involved in that project, and the college has received support from the Seattle Garden Club through a recent grant for that work.
