We provide answers to frequently asked questions related to academic standing.
- What is Level 1: Academic Concern?
- The college places students on Academic Concern after the first term in which their cumulative and term GPA falls below a C average.
- I received a letter stating that I am on Academic Concern. What does this mean?
- Academic Concern indicates that your overall academic progress at the College is not satisfactory. No action needs to be taken if you receive a letter that you are on academic concern.
- You are encouraged to use the available support services to help you return to good academic standing, defined as a cumulative or overall GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- What is Level 2: Academic Intervention
- The college places students on Academic Intervention at the end of the second term in which their cumulative and term GPA falls below a C average (2.0).
- What do I have to do if I’m placed on Level 2 Academic Intervention?
- You are automatically enrolled into an online student success workshop located in Canvas. If you do not see the workshop, you can enroll yourself by visiting the Canvas Enrollment Enrollment page.
- A hold is placed on your account until the workshop is completed.
- Will I be dropped from my current quarter classes if I am on academic intervention?
- No. You will not be dropped from your courses during the term you are placed on this level. You will not be able to enroll in future quarters until the workshop is completed.
- What happens if I don’t complete the online workshop during the quarter I am on academic intervention and then earn another quarterly GPA below 2.0?
- If you earn a quarterly GPA below a 2.0 during the term you are enrolled in the workshop (Level 2), you will be placed on Academic Credit Restriction the following quarter and limited to taking 8 credits.
- You are still required to complete the Canvas workshop.
- I’m having technical issues and am unable to access the workshop?
- Contact the Technology Help Desk at 425-564-HELP if you have trouble with your Bellevue College email or if you are having technical issues.
- What is Academic Credit Restriction?
- The college places students on Academic Credit Restriction at the end of the third quarter in which their cumulative and term GPA falls below a C average (2.0).
- While on academic credit restriction you must limit your enrollment to 8 credits. This means you must adjust your class schedule as directed by the college
- How do I register for classes if I am on credit restriction?
- You must complete and submit the form below every term until your cumulative GPA is 2.0 or higher and you are no longer on credit restriction.
- Can I appeal to have my credits increased or to have the credit restriction removed?
- Check out the appeal section of the website for information about how to appeal and the when you are required to submit an appeal.
- If I don’t submit an appeal, when will my restriction be removed
- Your credit restriction is removed completely when your cumulative GPA is a 2.0 or higher.
- What can I do if I’ve been academically dismissed from the college?
- You may appeal your dismissal. If your appeal is approved, you are placed back on academic restriction.
- Students returning to the college after being academically dismissed for one year are also required to submit an appeal.
- What am I required to include in my appeal?
- As part of your appeal, describe any extenuating circumstances that impacted your academic standing and provide documentation when available.
- Schedule a dismissal appeal appointment with a member of the Student Success & Retention team to develop an educational plan. The plan must be signed, limited to 8 credits per term, and outline the courses you will take over the next four terms to make progress toward your degree, certificate, or academic goal. - How long will it take for my appeal to be reviewed?
- Allow up to 2 weeks for your appeal to be reviewed. To determine where Student Central is in processing your appeal, refer to the Student Central Processing Dashboard (opens in new tab) and scroll down to the appeals section.
- Contact Student Central (opens in new tab) for any questions related to your specific appeal.
What should I do if I’m not making academic progress and I am on Financial Aid?
- If you are a student on Financial Aid (opens in new tab) contact the Financial Aid office to check if your current academic standing has impacted your aid. Only the Financial Aid Office can answer questions related to aid.
